The Chœur Schütz invites you to join them in celebrating Gabriel Fauré's year with this concert devoted to some of his early works and his famous Cantique de Jean Racine. The second part will feature Maurice Duruflé's Requiem.
This year marks the 100th anniversary of the death of Gabriel Fauré (1845-1924).
whose best-known work is undoubtedly his Requiem, composed in 1888.
Foreseeing that this work would feature prominently on many occasions in the cultural life of the city of Bisonne (Orgue en Ville, Festival), we have chosen to pay tribute to this composer by proposing a number of short scores that are much less well known, with the exception of the Cantique de Jean Racine, but just as engaging.
The second part of the programme features Maurice Duruflé's Requiem, in the version for choir and organ arranged by the composer. Although the two works are closely related in their great gentleness of expression, with the exception of brief moments of tension during the Dies iræ, Duruflé's Requiem stands out from Fauré's by its regular reference to immediately recognisable Gregorian motifs.
