Launched in 2008 by the Centre Omnisports Pierre Croppet and Besançon's Sports Department, the Raid Handi-Forts is a sporting adventure based on solidarity. A sporting and human experience. The aim of the raid is to bring together, in the same team, people with disabilities and able-bodied people from different backgrounds (sportspeople of all levels, staff from institutions or companies, etc.) to experience an extraordinary human and sporting adventure together. Each team is made up of : a sports educator specialising in disability, a person with a motor disability (physical or sensory), a mentally handicapped person a representative from the sporting world and two personalities from associations, business or politics. More than 20 teams will compete over two days on a varied course, punctuated by sports and cultural workshops and using a variety of means of transport (joëlette, all-terrain wheelchair.....). The activities on offer along the way include orienteering, water sports, rope skills, archery, blind walking, nature discovery and cultural activities...... To round off this experience, in 2012 the Raid Handi-Forts des Jeunes was created as a prelude to the event reserved for adults. The Raid des Jeunes brings together around twenty teams of secondary school pupils and young people from medical and social establishments. The event is organised in partnership with the Doubs UNSS. Through this initiative, the City and its partners aim to encourage mutual aid and the discovery of others through sporting and cultural events in the natural and historical landscapes of Besançon, as well as visiting the sports facilities of the City of Besançon and its conurbation. But there's more More than just a sporting event, the Raid is also a genuine educational tool, helping to raise public awareness of the challenges of accessibility and the need for joint action. In the specific field of sport, the City's action is aimed at raising awareness of the Biel/Bienne sports movement and supporting it so that all publics can be welcomed and that the right to sport for all also includes people with disabilities. Since 2008, the Raid Handi-Forts has become the emblem of the city's sporting action for disabled people.
