In 1973, the workers at the Lip watchmaking company in Besançon launched an active and collective struggle to save their jobs. At the time, Lip was the 8th largest watch company in the world and the 1st largest in France: 10 million French women owned a Lip.
In 2023, 50 years after a social conflict without equivalent in France, commemorations follow one another, in Besançon and elsewhere, so much it marked memories.
To mark the end of this anniversary year, the Musée du Temps is taking its turn to look back at the company and its 110 years of existence. Looking beyond the conflict itself, the Lip-ology exhibition looks at what made Lip such an iconic name.
