direction du patrimoine historique : Besançon ville d'art et d'histoire

This is the story of an old lady whose 170th birthday we will be celebrating this year. It's an old lady who has seen many ups and downs in the history of our town and our country. The original station was built in 1856, partly in wood, for military reasons: the need to be able to destroy it quickly in the event of an enemy invasion! But it was completely destroyed in an aerial bombardment by the British Royal Air Force during the Occupation on 16 July 1943. As a result, it was left in sad temporary barracks before being rebuilt and inaugurated in 1963. Since then, apart from its accesses, its appearance has changed little. And it seems that its future is secure, despite the creation of the Besançon Franche-Comté TGV station in 2011. It is now a necessary multimodal hub for the Comtois capital. Jean-Marc PARIS, a retired SNCF executive, will talk about the station's development, using maps and photos from the past to the present day.
