Histoires de sel
Histoires de sel
A former salt production factory, the Royal Salt Works of Arc-et-Senans allows you to retrace the history of its production, made possible by brine transported by underground pipes from Salins-les-Bains.
Through six rooms located in the Director's House, discover how salt was harvested very early on by mankind, who developed a variety of production techniques: washed land, salt marshes, cooking the brine, etc. This exhibition depicts the origins of salt, an element essential to life, its geography, its symbolic and ritual role, and its uses yesterday and today.
