Orchestre Victor Hugo - Concert Années 30 The three works on the programme for this concert, composed in 1931, 1932 and 1933 respectively, share a common desire: to return to their roots. For his double-concerto for piano, Poulenc borrowed elements from Bach, Mozart, Rachmaninov and Ravel, but also drew inspiration from the traditional Balinese music he had heard a year earlier. And who better to play the first part of his concerto for two pianos than his childhood friend Jacques Février? As for Kodály, he composed a dozen dances based on his memories of Galánta, the small town where he spent seven years of his childhood, while Bartók returned to the folklore of his native country to compose his Sketches.
