La Compagnie maje is organising the 3rd edition of Jazz en Janvier, an evening showcasing modern and contemporary jazz dance and making professional and amateur choreography accessible.
Modern jazz is taught in many amateur schools and forms an important basis for professional training. Yet it is not given much prominence on the professional performing arts scene. Jazz en Janvier aims to change that, by offering a modern and contemporary vision, far from clichés, full of subtlety and collective energy. The event offers audiences a chance to encounter creations that reflect the diversity and vitality of jazz, from its roots to the most contemporary interpretations.
The company maje will be presenting Projeté, a piece that has been evolving since 2024, moving towards a version with five dancers, ready to meet a wider audience. Its choreographer, Jessie Menanteau, is the first artist from the region to obtain the state-recognised Diplôme de Chorégraphe through La Fabrique de la Danse de Pantin.
Guest artists include :
- The Canevas group from EDDanse Belfort, led by Noémie Banderier
- Students from Coralie Maignant's Hangar Espace Danse (Morteau)
- The choreography workshop of Alice Drouch's Danse en Corps school (Dole)
- The LoCo (Loge Chorégraphique), a pre-stage training scheme run this year by the company maje, with the creation So Phare by Jessie Menanteau, bringing together young dancers aged 8 to 17.
