Following the anniversary of the bicentenary of the birth of Louis Pasteur (27 December 1822 in Dole), it is interesting to recall the links that attach the great Jura scientist to Besançon. The grandson and son of tanners, Louis Pasteur's family origins were in Besançon. His father, Jean-Joseph Pasteur was born 53 rue d'Arènes in 1791 in the family tannery. Louis Pasteur moved to Besançon in 1839 to complete his studies and prepare for his baccalaureate at the Collège Royal (now the Collège Victor Hugo).
