Established in Besançon in 1203, the Hospitaller Order of the Holy Spirit had a chapel and hospital buildings built in 1207 thanks to the donations of Jean de Montferrand. Therefore, the main mission of the congregation is to welcome and care for the sick, the destitute, pilgrims and abandoned children. Over the centuries the building has undergone transformations in its architecture, modification of the chapel, construction of a tower in the 15th century and a carved wooden gallery a little later.
The decor of this gallery is a happy blend of medieval and Renaissance expression.
