After studying in Besançon, Alphonse Delacroix brilliantly passed the competitive examination for the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He was posted to Besançon as the architect for the Doubs department and the diocese, and was responsible for many private and public buildings in Besançon. Passionate about archaeology and geology, he was responsible for the reconstruction of the Arcier aqueduct and the discovery of the Miserey salt deposit.
