PORTRAITS D’ARCHITECTES : Pierre Marnotte (1797-1882)

    A student of Bernard Poyet and Achille Leclère in Paris, Pierre Marnotte worked in Marseille and Lyon before becoming the architect for the city of Besançon (1823 - 1836). He remained in this city until his death in 1882. He distinguished himself brilliantly in the realization of various constructions, churches, town halls, halls in the whole of Franche-Comté in an eclectic style in accordance with the tendency of the 19th century. His passion for Gallo-Roman archaeology and medieval history enabled him to restore the triumphal arch of Bisontin. Prices: €8 - €6 for students, under 18s, members of the Tourist Office (on presentation of a card), disabled persons. Free for under 12s and jobseekers.
