MUSEUM OF ARTS and archeology

Known as the most ancient French public collection, the Museum of Fine Arts of Besançon was created in 1694. Collections of each time are rich and varied. Egyptian, Greek or Etruscan antiquities as well as the magnificent Gallo-Roman mosaics remind us of the time when Besançon was known as Vesontio. The Fine Art Collection from the Middle Ages to nowadays takes us on the path of the main schools of paintings and sculptures.
